This week DRASS welcomed Admiral Sergio Liardo Chief of the Italian Coast Guard, Corpo delle Capitanerie di porto – Guardia Costiera, and Admiral Gaetano Canu, Commander of the Livorno Harbour Master’s Office, for a visit focused on the DRASS UTC (Underwater Traffic Control) at DRASS headquarters. The UTC is DRASS’ patented geospatial information system, designed to transform littoral and subsea situational awareness through advanced mapping, sensor integration, and operational decision support. During the visit, the delegation explored UTC’s advanced capabilities, including: Designed as an open-architecture platform, UTC provides comprehensive, modular seabed mapping, supporting safer, faster and more effective decision-making in demanding maritime environments. UTC is not only an underwater infrastructure mapping system covering large maritime areas—it is also a critical enabler of advanced Submarine Escape and Rescue (SMER), harmonising multiple assets, international procedures and real-time operational data into a single intelligent platform within next-generation submarine rescue vessels, including the Italian Navy’s advanced Submarine Rescue Ship Olterra. UTC enables the coordination of simultaneous rescue, diving and intervention missions with unprecedented levels of situational awareness and operational control. We sincerely thank Admiral Liardo, Admiral Canu and their delegation for the visit and for the engaging exchange of ideas on the future of underwater technologies and maritime safety. At DRASS, we remain committed to advancing technologies that protect lives at sea.
