t24 Economia today covers a landmark submarine programme secured by DRASS for the Ministry of Defence (Indonesia), involving the supply of six next-generation DGK-class compact submarines. The programme represents a major step for the Italian defence industry in Southeast Asia and reflects DRASS’ longstanding role as a global reference in compact submarines, hyperbaric systems, deep-diving technology and integrated subsea solutions. Designed and developed from DRASS headquarters in Livorno, the DGK submarines bring together advanced in-house capabilities in command and control, lithium-ion battery propulsion, shallow-water manoeuvrability, special forces operations and underwater systems integration. “Drass is already the global benchmark for the production of compact submarines,” notes President Sergio Cappelletti. “I would like to point out that we are the only Italian company to have exported compact submarines, weighing over 120 tons. No Italian company has ever exported submarines of this size or larger.” As T24 Economia reports, the programme extends well beyond the vessels themselves, encompassing logistics, training, and long-term support — embedding DRASS capability into one of the world’s most strategically important maritime regions for years to come.
