Last week, the NATO Submarine Escape & Rescue Working Group (SMERWG) brought together the international submarine rescue community in Victoria, British Columbia, for a focused exchange on the future of Submarine Escape, Rescue, Abandonment and Survival. Representing DRASS in support of the Italian Navy presentations was Marco Spaziano, former Italian Navy Special Forces Officer and Operations Manager for Unmanned Vehicles. As supplier of the Italian Navy’s SAVER Submarine Rescue System, DRASS supported this global dialogue through next-generation solutions designed around rapid intermodal mobilisation and subsea intervention, including emergency DISSUB ventilation and deep-sea rescue capabilities. SMERWG 2026 reinforced a shared priority among modern navies: preparedness, interoperability, and coordinated operational response when every minute counts.
